At long last, the good people of God in Leeds have a new bishop. Following the departure of Bishop Arthur Roche to Rome as Secretary to the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, the Diocese of Leeds has been without a bishop for over two years.

Finally, Pope Francis announced the other day that Msgr. Marcus Stock was to become the new bishop of Leeds. Since 2009 he has been Secretary General of the Episcopal Conference of England and Wales and Director of the Faculty of Theology at Heythrop College, London.

Msgr. Stock announced that his episcopal consecration will take place on 13th November 2014, a little under two months away. It will be interesting to see how, like so many of the new appointments to the various empty bishoprics of England & Wales, Msgr. Stock grabs the reins with both hands to reinvigorate the Faith of his people.
